Use of residual waste glass in an alkali-activated binder – Structural characterization, environmental leaching behavior and comparison of reactivity

Waste glass based geopolymers have a high potential in the future as an eco-friendly inorganic binder. However, limited studies are available on use of residue waste recycling this type This work investigates valorization Residual Glass (RWG) (the final centers) crushed at d90 < 13 μm geopolymer activating solution. RWG is thus used source free silicon with metakaolin (MK) aluminosilicates. The solution from was prepared four ratios sodium hydroxide 10 M: R1 (10M-NaOH + g RWG), R2 20 R3 30 RWG) and R4 40 RWG). effect these treatments mobility metallic metalloid trace elements (MMTE) major (Si4+ Al3+) measured. structure solid phases produced after drying 120 °C/24 h studied using Fourier Transformed Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) XRD analyses. From analyses, deemed optimal. formulation mortars MK three activator sources: optimized (R3), Commercial Sodium Silicate (CSS) reference formed by NaOH blended to obtain same molar mixture. mechanical environmental performance results both highlight interest dissolving first before insertion into matrix. study shows that treated becomes good reactivity for obtaining binder enhanced properties compared CSS source.
